Staffordshire town, 6 miles E of Wolverhampton.

The writer of plays and humorous novels Jerome K. Jerome (1859-1927) was born in Bradford Street, but the family moved away when he was a young boy.

The novelist, Paul McDonald, (1961-) one of the Tindal Street Press authors, was born in Walsall.

Sir Henry Newbolt (1862-1938), poet, lived in Walsall at the home of his mother's family following the death of his father, who was Vicar of St. Mary's Church, Bilston. He was four years old and stayed here until going off to boarding school at the age of nine.

The publisher and novelist William Henry Robinson (1847-1926) worked in Walsall for over thirty years, on both the newspaper and printing business set up by his father.
