Shropshire village, 3 miles E of Shifnal.
Charles Dickens (1812-1870) stayed here and described the village and the church in The Old Curiosity Shop (1841).
The antiquarian Robert William Eyton (1815-1881) spent much of his childhood here.
The novelist Ellen Thorneycroft Fowler (1860-1929) called the village Pembruge in her novels A double tread (1899) and The Farringdons (1900). Her uncle, John Hartley, a Wolverhamprton ironmaster and dignitary, was tenant of Tong Castle.
