1942-
Novelist. Born in Cardiff in 1942 he went to Cardiff High School before going on to University College, Cardiff. He completed a dissertation on Thomas Hardy to gain his Master of Arts degree and then went into teaching. He tried script writing for the radio but turned to the full-length novel, thus launching his new successful career as a thriller writer. His first novel to be published was Rat trap (1976). This was followed by Firefox (1977) which became a bestseller, allowing him to give up teaching to concentrate on writing. Wolfsbane was followed by Snow falcon (1977) and thereafter a succession of espionage thrillers, many featuring the characters Sir Kenneth Aubrey and Patrick Hyde. He lives near Lichfield in Staffordshire.
