Talke

Staffordshire village, 4 miles NW of Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The village derives its name from the older village "Talk O' Th' Hill", meaning bush on top of the hill.

It is the location of Linley Wood, where author Anne Marsh-Caldwell (1791-1874) lived for most of her life. Her home was a large rambling mansion house, up above Linley Road, on an estate known as Linley Wood. The modern house is now called Linley Hall.
