Warwickshire town, 8 miles SW of Warwick.

The novelist Dorothy Charques (1899-1976) lived in the town in later life.

Mary Mackay (1854-1924), romantic novelist known by her pseudonym of Marie Corelli, spent the last 23 years of her life at Mason Croft, Church Street. She is buried in the cemetery.

Probably the greatest English literary figure of all time, William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was born, lived and is buried at Stratford.

Elizabeth Stevenson (later Elizabeth Gaskell) was a boarder at a school at Avonbank, once owned by Thomas Greene, a cousin of William Shakespeare, and adjacent to Holy Trinity Church. The house was demolished in 1866.
