Shropshire village, 8 miles SE of Oswestry.

The young Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) worked here for four months in 1878 as a medical assistant to Dr. Elliot. He stayed at the doctor's home, Cliffe House, a Georgian mansion built around 1840. Crime novelist Priscilla Masters (1952- ) was inspired by the works of Arthur Conan Doyle to write her crime novels.
