Samuel Garbet (1685-1786)

Sir Edward German (1862-1936)
Composer. Born in Whitchurch. Best remembered for his operetta "Merrie England".

Reginald Heber (1783-1826)

Rowland Hill (1772-1842)
Army officer. Born at Prees Hall. A hero of the Peninsular War. He is commemorated by a tall column outside Shirehall, Shrewsbury.

Eglantyne Jebb (1876-1928)
Social reformer. Born at Ellesmere. She was a co-founder of the Save the Children Fund.

George Jeffreys (1648-1689)
Judge. Educated at Shrewsbury School and rewarded for his services to the crown to become first Baron Jeffreys of Wem.

Philip Larkin (1922-1985)

John Osborne (1929-1994)

Sir John Talbot (1390-1453)
First Earl of Shrewsbury. Fought at the Battle of Shrewsbury. His body was interred at Whitchurch 40 years after his death at the Battle of Castillon, France.

Actor. Thought to have been born at Condover.

Percy Thrower (1913-1988)
Gardener. Parks Superintendent for Shrewsbury and TV gardening personality.

Matthew Webb (1848-1883)

Mary Webb (1881-1927)
