Changing face of Shropshire: Using before and after photographs

In 1963, it was decided that a new town was needed to accommodate the surplus population of Birmingham. The area chosen was expanded in 1968, and was named Telford. The change affected existing towns around Telford, such as Madeley and Wellington, shown below.

Find an old photograph of a street or area where you live. Compare the old photograph with the current scene. Differences you might look for include:

  • The types of people in the street, such as different nationalities, or a different mix of ages or genders
  • New buildings or alterations to existing buildings
  • Changes in roads and transport
