3a. Changing face of Shropshire: Using statistics

You can use statistics to find out about population changes in your area. One good source of statistics is the census. This is carried out every ten years, although because of the War there was no census in 1941. The census asks questions about person and every household in the country.

Another useful site, which ties in with the Prisoner's of War topic, is the History of the Agricultural Census at the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. This site uses census data to look at how farming changed during the course of World War Two, up to the present day.
