How has your part of Shropshire changed since World War Two?

Finding out

These pages have tracked a number of changes in Shropshire during World War One, World War Two and afterwards. Drawing on a variety of sources, it has been possible to discover that:

  • Lots of people came into the county as a result of the war.
  • The make-up of the population of Shropshire has changed.
  • Shropshire is becoming an ethnically diverse county.

Do you think that your part of Shropshire has changed since World War Two? To find out, you can use similar sources to those used in these pages.

  • Look at statistics. (Opens in a new window)
  • Look at before and after photographs. (Opens in a new window)
  • Look at maps or aerial photographs. These will show you how your area has grown.
  • Read books on the subject. One good place to start might be:
Barrie Trinder, "A History of Shropshire", Phillimore, Chichester, 1983
  • Talk to people about what Shropshire was like in the 1950's and 1960's.

All these sources can be found in Shropshire Archives (opens in a new window), or at your local library.
