The information in this theme should help students study for the 'Medicine Through Time' component of their History GCSE. For teachers, this theme provides ideas, background information and digitised archive sources that can be integrated into their teaching.
Suggested approaches to the information
- As part of a small research project, students could be asked to undertake their own research in to a disease, such as Leprosy, using information from the internet and library. The research could then be presented in the form of a poster or even a webpage.
Some of the questions that could be posed, include:
- What caused people to be healthy or unhealthy?
- What ideas did people have about causes and treatment of illness and injuries?
- How far did new ideas and treatments affect the majority of the population?
