1. Background information

At the beginning of the 20th Century in Shropshire, Agnes Hunt established 'The Baschurch Home' also known as the 'The Baschurch Home for Crippled Children' as an outpost of the Royal Salop Infirmary in Shrewsbury. Along with her friend, Emily 'Goody' Goodford, Agnes Hunt made the first steps to establishing a world renowned orthopaedic hospital, known today as the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital.

Through a combination of good nursing, lots of fresh air and new forms of treatment, Agnes Hunt treated many young patients, with mobility problems. The following sources look at some of the aspects of her life and work.
