1. Explore your local environment: a case study for the parishes of Church Preen, Hughley and Kenley.

What can the landscape tell us about our local history?

Introduction

This theme looks at how the past can be recorded in the local environment. The landscape has a tale to tell. Our ancestor's past activities are often visible in the landscape, while other records remain in old photographs, maps, enclosure awards and censuses to name a few. This is a journey through images recording the history of a small area of Shropshire.

If you are a school, Shropshire Archives, based at Castlegates in Shrewsbury, can compile a "Focus Pack" for your local area. This is an invaluable collection of copies of historic documents, old maps and other resources for use in the classroom. For details contact Shropshire Archives on 01743 255 350. Focus Packs cost £22.50 plus £5 package and posting and take working 20 days to be compiled and longer when demand is high, so order in advance to avoid disappointment.

This theme has been based on the Focus pack for Church Preen, Hughley and Kenley.
