The Story Continues

The following words are part of a made-up storyElizabeth, the elder girl, is successful at her work and is soon promoted to kitchen maid. She is an outgoing child and makes friends easily. One of her friends is a stable hand who looks after the master's trap pony. It is through him that Elizabeth meets the feed merchant's son and they fall in love.

The following words are part of a made-up storyAs Elizabeth is indentured until the age of 21 the only option of open to her was to marry, this would release her from the indenture into the care of her husband. Elizabeth is only 15 at the time needs permission from her parents to marry as she is legally a minor. This permission is grudgingly given by David Davies and she marries, leaves her employer and sets up home in Shrewsbury living with her husband's family.

The following words are part of a made-up storyMary Davies continues as a scullery maid. Mary is not so forthcoming as Elizabeth, she misses home dreadfully and spends much time in tears. With the help of Elizabeth's friend the stable hand, Mary resolves to run away to get back home. She hides on a feed cart and manages to reach the village of Nesscliffe before she is discovered and returned to Shrewsbury where her employer instigates punishment. Life becomes more miserable for Mary, so she resolves to run away again.
