The Story Continues
Elizabeth and Mary have lost their jobs at The Hall through no fault of their own. Children such as Mary and Elizabeth, who were from families too poor to support them, would have been sent out by the Parish Officers to work as apprentices. These positions were usually in close proximity to the parish.
John, who is now 10 years old, is strong and used to outdoor work. He would make a good apprenticed husbandman to a neighbouring farm. Although he would earn no money he would have been no drain on the income of the parish or his family.
