3c. Murderous Mapp: Modern version of the evidence

The Day of Mapp's arrest
Tuesday, 24th December, 1867

  1. The police searched Mapp's house. They found a knife and some bloodstained clothes. In the pocket of Mapp's trousers was a brooch. Ann Davis recognised that the brooch was the same as the one she had pinned to Catherine Lewis.
  2. The coroner conducted a post-mortem (he examined the dead body). Catherine died from a five inch wound to her throat. There were several small cuts, as if made by a knife.
  3. Mapp was arrested.
