Transport and communication themes

The Industrial development themes looked at how Shropshire changed during the Industrial Revolution. One of the key factors in the increase in industry in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was the improvement in transport. The Transport and communication themes look at the major changes - from turnpike roads, to canals, railways and modern bus services - which have taken place in Shropshire. The evidence of these changes can probably be found in your area, but what did that disused railway line or canal bed look like in its heyday?
