Sources and collections

These resources are designed to provide easy access to galleries of related archive materials.

Source guide. This explains how to locate and interpret the different types of historical sources available. There are examples of types of sources and how can they be used to do historical research, particularly with KS3 History.

Shropshire people. Some important individuals associated with the county.

Shropshire places. Links to pages on individual town and villages in the county as a basis for further study and research.

Memory bank. A collection of interviews and personal reminiscences on Shropshire's past.

Suffragettes in Shropshire. Background information relating to the Suffragette movement and details of sources held by Shropshire Archives. (KS3 History)

Nineteenth century child labour. A collection of text and image sources representing the lives and working conditions of children in Shropshire during the Industrial Revolution. (KS3 History)

Trade directories. You can view trade directories from 1822, 1850 and 1895 to see how Shropshire and the areas of Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Broseley and Market Drayton have changed. (KS3 History)

Dissolution of the monasteries. An introduction to the dissolution of the monasteries in the county. (KS2 History)

Lydbury North. Uncover the history of Lord Clive of India and Walcot Estate, through documents from the Powis Collection held at Shropshire Archives.
