Industrial development themes

During the eighteenth century, Shropshire was at the heart of the increase in industry that would become known as the Industrial Revolution. Shropshire's landscape and society was changed dramatically, as you can discover in the Shropshire's industrial heritage and the Exploring industrialisation themes. However, not everybody was supportive of the developments. Reform movements such as Chartism grew in response to the difference between the political rights of the wealthy owners of businesses, and the limited rights of their workers. Anger at conditions in Britain also led many to emigrate to the 'New World' of America.
