Shropshire village, 3 miles NW of Pontesbury.
Caus Castle, to the south west of the village is part of a deserted township at the east end of Long Mountain. The overgrown site now appears as a series of ditches leading up to a most impressive motte with just a few remnants of masonry being all that is left of the castle which was reported as being in decay by the year 1521. The Thynne family originated from Caus Castle but moved to Minsterley in the early 17th century. William Thynne (died 1546), first editor of Chaucer's works, may well have been born at Caus.
