Stokesay

Shropshire hamlet, 1 mile S of Craven Arms.

Stokesay Castle is generally considered the finest mediaeval fortified manor house in the country and one of Shropshire's jewels.

The American novelist Henry James (1843- 1916) came here and described his sense of enchantment with what he saw in English Hours (1875).
