Madeley


Shropshire town, 1 mile NE of Ironbridge.

Former industrial town, now part of Telford.

Joseph Anstice (1808-1836) the essayist and scholar was born at Madeley Wood Hall.

John Fletcher (1729-1785) the great preacher and friend of John Wesley was vicar here for many years up to his death.

John Randall (1810-1910) was a prolific writer and publisher who was born in Madeley and kept the Post Office in Park Avenue.

John Wesley (1703-1791) was a regular visitor of his friend John Fletcher at Madeley Vicarage. Wesley often preached in the old church and at Madeley Wood.
