Staffordshire town, 7 miles SW of Rugeley.
Cannock Chase, once an extensive forest where kings and noblemen hunted for sport, has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to writers and artists. David Christie Murray (1847-1907) set many of his novels in and around Cannock Chase, having grown up in nearby West Bromwich.
The publisher and novelist, William Henry Robinson (1847-1926) was born in Cannock.
The novelist, Tom Wakefield (1935-1996), was born and brought up in the town, the son of a coal miner.
