1965-
Born in Birmingham in 1965, Roger Jon Ellory and his brother were left as orphans in the early 1970's when their mother died of pneumonia. After years at boarding school, his life continued on an eventful and unpredictable course involving graphic design, photography, and playing guitar with a band called The Manta Rays. Through a love of reading, Roger began to develop an interest in writing - and in 1987 he started his first novel. During the following six years Roger completed an astonishing 22 books, mostly written in longhand. With publishers' rejection letters running into the hundreds, he stopped writing to focus on other interests.
In 2001 Roger began writing again, completing three novels in six months. One of these was Candlemoth, which in 2003 became his first book to be published. Since then Roger's success has continued apace, with a book published every year. Although hard to pigeonhole, his novels are often described as crime thrillers, but with a strong focus on the human dramas within each story. Atmospheric American settings have become his hallmark, with readers often surprised to discover that he his not an American writer. In 2008 his fifth novel A quiet belief in angels was featured in the Richard and Judy Book Club, bringing his work to an even wider audience.
Roger is in demand throughout the country for book signings and literary events, and as a speaker he is entertaining and inspiring in equal measure. Married with one son, Roger lives in Birmingham.
