Novelist. Born Dorothy Taylor at Alcester, Warwickshire. Attended Alcester Grammar School before studying at the University of Sheffield. Married Richard Charques, author and critic, in 1929 with whom she wrote two novels, Above and below (1929) and After the party (1933). She married again in 1964 to S.A.G. Emms, a consultant engineer and latterly lived in Stratford-upon-Avon.
