Kenley

Shropshire village, 4 miles W of Much Wenlock. A quiet and isolated village where there are delightful views across the Shropshire hills.

The clergyman and man of letters Archibald Alison (1757-1839) was rector here from 1790. In the biography by his son, the Archibald was very happy here, devoting himself to "literary study with active beneficence and easy independence". He added the livings of High Ercal and Roddington, both also in Shropshire, to his responsibilities before returning to his roots in Scotland in 1800.
