Herefordshire village, 6 miles SE of Hereford.
The poet Alexander Pope (1688-1744) frequently stayed at Holme Lacy House, the home of the Scudamore family. Here he learned and wrote of the good works of John Kyrle (1637-1724), the Man of Ross ( see also Ross-on-Wye). Sir John Scudamore (1601-1671) was a patron of the arts and friend to both John Milton (1608-1674) and Thomas Fuller (1608-1661). He is buried in St. Cuthbert's Church, alongside his ancestors, celebrated by a collection of notable and elegant classical monuments.
