The city of Hereford is home to an 11th century cathedral which houses a world famous chained library, with manuscripts dating from the 8th century. The diarist Robert Francis Kilvert (1840-1879) brought to life the surrounding areas of Herefordshire and in particular the village of Bredwardine where he was the vicar. The poet, W. H. Auden, (1907-1973) taught in the village of Colwall for three years, and the village of Kington was chosen by the crime novelist Isobel Lambot (1926-2001) as home for many years until her death.
Below you will find a list of some towns and villages of Herefordshire. The places, and their literary connections, are described on separate pages.
