Edial

Staffordshire village, 3 miles W of Lichfield.

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) set up home at Edial House on his marriage in 1735. With the help of his wife's finances he was able to run a school, but this was not a success and he abandoned the enterprise two years later and moved to London.
