Michael Dibdin

1947 -

Profile

Born in Wolverhampton, Michael Dibdin specialises in writing crime novels with literary qualities of moral complexities and dilemmas.

He spent most of his childhood in Northern Ireland, with parents who were forever moving around the British Isles. Despite wanting to settle as a child, as an adult Michael has also moved around a lot to Canada, to Italy and more recently to America.

His first literary success came with the publication of The last Sherlock Holmes case, but he is better known for having created the character of Aurelio Zen, the Venetian born detective. Michael spent five years working as an English teacher in Italy, and when he returned to England he created Zen as a way of using his experiences of life in Italy.

Now married to his third wife, crime writer Katherine Beck (K. K. Beck) he lives in Seattle, Washington. He has two daughters.
